The School of Interdisciplinary Design and Innovation (SIDI) has been created in November 2020 to give thrust to the design-centric education mandate of IIITDM Kancheepuram. SIDI draws its motivation from two major developments that have impacted the education sector in the year 2020 - the pandemic that exposed the fault-lines in the prevalent teaching/faculty-centric model of education, and the National Education Policy 2020 that has created possibilities for developing new learning/student-centric networks of education and innovation.
A basic module of six courses (18 credits) in product design and entrepreneurship spread over the first six semesters to cultivate curiosity and creative confidence amongst all the undergraduate engineering students joining IIITDM

An additional set of six elective courses between 6-8 semesters, full-semester internship with industry partners in the 7th semester and an interdisciplinary project in the 8th semester (total 38 credits) to enhance the product design competence of select engineers who opt for minor in product design
